Two of the most influential record labels of all time celebrate milestone anniversaries this year so London’s No.1 Hip-Hop party promoters are celebrating by making them go head to head. While room 1 is dedicated to the sounds of Def Jam and all the music it has released in it’s 25 years of shaping Hip-Hop & R&B upstairs room 2 will be exploring 50 years of “The Sound Of Young America” that is Motown.

To mark Motown’s 50th birthday this year The Doctor’s Orders resident and promoter Spin Doctor has recorded a double disk mix CD that will be released in conjunction with this event and available in all good record stores. Spin has hand picked a team of four DJs that will be playing sets that delve into the huge catalogues of these incredible labels.

Def Jam has done more than any label to shape the sound of Hip-Hop. From the early days when it was run from a university dorm through to today where it stands with offices all around the world and a roster of artists and labels that fall under the Def Jam tree that covers all styles of Hip-Hop from all corners of the US and the globe we will be exploring all aspects of the labels releases with a hand picked selection of DJs.

DJ Semtex is a busy man. With a radio show on 1xtra, his duties as Dizzee Rascals DJ and his promotion work for none other than Def Jam he was the perfect pick to represent in room 1. Joining him with a selection of Def Jam’s hits from the last 25 years is Southern Hospitality’s Rob Breezy. With over 15 years of collecting and spinning Hip-Hop at events as varied as his regular Hip-Hop Karaoke nights to Baby Loves Disco there a few people with a deeper knowledge of the label that we could have asked to bless the fun loving Doctor’s Orders crowd.

Spin Doctor will be multi-tasking on the night by warming up the Def Jam room and then marking the release of his ”Doctorin’ Detroit” Motown mixtape with the last set in room two that will explore not only the releases of the label but also the careers it created and influences it had on others. From 60’s pop, through 70’s funk to 80’s Disco and 90’s R&B Spin will be leaving no Motown stone unturned.

Alongside Spin Doctor are two enthusiasts of the world’s most influential record label. Phil Asher is one of the UK’s best-loved purveyors of soulful music who’s Djing, production & remix work has seen him pack clubs all around the world. He is sure to bless the dance-floor with a selection of much loved and little known bangers. Warming things up with his own selection of the Motown sound is Deke who’s years of filling the 7’s only jukebox at his ever popular Three Kings pub has seen him develop a cracking selection of 45’s from the golden era that first saw acts like Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, The Four Tops, The Temptations and 100’s of other great acts rise to prominence.
